History & Cultural Heritage
Buenavista del Norte was officially founded on March 11, 1498, although the foundation act dates from 1513. The town developed around agriculture and fishing, and its 16th-century urban layout has been preserved to this day, making it one of the best-preserved historic centers on the island.
In 1996, a fire destroyed the church of Nuestra Señora de los Remedios, which was one of the most significant events in the town's modern history.
